New to body building

So, here goes, I'm 57 years old, almost 58, I was grossly overweight and last January I had a stroke in my brain stem. Luckily no lasting damage, but it did force me to re-think things while in hospital. I've since changed all my eating habits and found that I like working out at the gym. I'm more and more leaning to body building, but I found I don't know squat, even after reading everything I can find. Any thoughts and advice would be helpful. Just for history, I had a left shoulder replacement in '09, left knee replacement '18, and have rods in holding my lumbar together, it got crushed and fused in 1990. I've led an active life since then teaching martial arts (kung fu), but let myself go when I started doing office work. Again, any help or links would be awesome. Currently I work out my upper body, going to the gym every other day, but am going to start doing cardio on the off days. I've dropped 24 pounds since my stroke (245 down to 221lbs).
