Dislocated Knee Cap

Hi guys,

I'm new to this reddit and to fitness in general and I'm having some problems, so I wanted to reach out to online community for help.

Quickly about me:

Male

36 y/o

5'11 height

240 weight

Roughly 4 months ago, I've decided to lose some weight and gain some muscles to be able to play hockey better. I'm just too fat to be fast on the ice, so I've decided to go to the gym 3x times per week, on top of my 3-4 hockey games per week.

I did a lot of research, mostly by watching YouTube videos, and started to eat right. No fast food or alcohol. At least 180 grams of protein per day and up to 160-200 grams of carbs per day.

I've started to take the following sports products:

Gold Standard 100% whey protein - at least 2-3 scoops per day with milk

Gold Standard BCAA after each workout

Micronized Creatine

Pre workout drink 1-2 per week

Here's the biggest problem:

I believe that some of those products or maybe something else caused joint problems. I'm not sure what exactly and how to prevent it in the future.

It started roughly a month after I started taking those products. One day at a hockey practice I fell down doing something very easy, nonetheless, I did fall down. I couldn't continue, went to the doctor and got sprained knee and back muscles. The recovery was quite long, 6 weeks before I could skate again or workout and full 3 months before I could use my knee without any pain at all. I didn't take any sports products during the 3 months recovery.

I started going to the gym again and taking the same sports products. A week ago, I was playing in the net when all of a sudden, roughly half way into the game I felt an incredibly sharp pain in my knee. I went down and then felt a pop in my knee. The pain started to decrease after that pop. We figured I've dislocated my knee cap. Since the injury felt very similar to my previous knee sprain, I just drove home, took the same pills I had leftover from last time, which is ibuprofen 600mg and a muscle relaxant. Iced the knee and then put on a knee brace.

The second time is was my other knee, not the same as the first time and if the first time I actually fell down skating quite fast up the ice, this time I was simply standing up still and turned my hips to the right maybe just a few degrees and somehow managed to dislocated a knee cap. I've been thinking about that a lot for the past week and can't figure out what happened, 'cause I've never had any problems with joins or knees in the past.

Does anyone know if these types of problems could be caused by those sports products at all or maybe I'm doing something else wrong.

Also, I didn't lose any weight, I managed to gain like 10 lbs since I started ... but that doesn't concern me, I just don't want to blow out my knees again.

Thank you in advance for your help and advice!
